Haze Precautions

The level of air pollution caused by the fires in other parts of this area is a matter of concern to us all.

The Singapore Government has provided clear guidelines for us to follow and a chart outlining these (together with other information) can be found on the National Environment Agency website at http://app.nea.gov.sg/cms/htdocs/article.asp?pid=1251

With immediate effect, the following precautions will be taken on both our Paterson Road and Preston Road campuses

1. The PSI reading will be monitored hourly – and appropriate action taken.

2. If the PSI reading passes above 100 then outdoor sports activities on the scheduled curriculum (such as PE and Swimming) will not take place. Other indoor activities will be substituted.

3. If the PSI passes above 100, then outdoor ECA activities will be cancelled. A decision will be taken on each campus at a time which will allow students to go home in their normal way. Parents of Elementary School students only will be told about any cancellation.

4. If the PSI reaches 110, all breaks/recesses will be indoors.

5. On both campuses, air filters will be in operation in both of the nurses’ offices. Any student or employee can go to those rooms should breathing difficulties be experienced. The nurses will then decide on any further action that needs to be taken.

6. In the unlikely event that conditions become so unhealthy that we need to close, our ‘Telephone Tree’ procedure will be used to inform parents and guardians.

7. We will publish this plan, and any changes to it, on our school website.

We all hope that we can return to our normal routine as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will monitor the situation closely.
