Literacy Week is where we celebrate our literacy learning through immersing our Paterson campus students in a number of literacy related activities, such as book swaps, author visits, and this year, the development of an ISS cookbook, “Cooked Up Stories”! Students submitted their self-written story-recipes for “Cooked Up Stories”, which will be available for purchase later in the school year.
Reading is an integral part of becoming a proficient communicator. It immerses our learners in new vocabulary which is essential for acquiring the language skills necessary for fluent communication. As our students grow and develop, reading together enables mindful participation in discussions in which ideas are articulated and shared. Involving the whole school community in reading and listening to stories in different languages contributes to encouraging empathy and tolerance of others.
Our students are empowered by authentic writing opportunities that enable them to tell their own stories, and describe and interpret their world. Seeing their own writing in print is an empowering experience which contributes to our students realising their own potential as Global Citizens of the future.
