“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others” – Mahatma Gandhi
On December 13th, Grade 5-8 students took part in our annual “Walk Towards Zero Hunger”. Students walked (or ran) approximately five (5) kilometres along the East Coast Parkway, carrying their food donations to deliver to the Foodbank here in Singapore.
Why did we do this?
Walking Towards Zero Hunger aims to focus attention on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #2: Zero Hunger– “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.” Through our efforts to collect food, we aimed to help many local community groups and families who struggle to make ends meet.
All G5-8 students participated in this Service as Action event and everyone donated two items of food to the Singapore Food Bank. Students made their food donations according to a guide, that was provided to our students, which explains what items are in greatest need by the Food Bank. Service for others is a key aim of the food collection for the Food Bank.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in “Walking Towards Zero Hunger”; we certainly are better off thanks to your efforts.
