About Our Well-being Programme
Well-being
Maintaining health, safety, and an active lifestyle is another fundamental aspect of well-being at ISS. In the Primary years, students are introduced to the importance of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, and safety. They develop an understanding of motor skills, well-being, and how to make informed choices that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. As they transition into High School, students continue to engage with these concepts by setting personal goals, learning about the long-term benefits of exercise, and exploring ways to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.
The ability to communicate and interact effectively is essential for students at every stage of their development. In Primary School, students learn about their roles and responsibilities within relationships, developing positive communication skills that help them interact with their peers, communities, and the world around them. In High School, these skills are honed further as students take on more complex group challenges, learning to collaborate effectively by capitalising on individual strengths to achieve shared goals. This fosters a sense of empathy, mutual respect, and compassion, preparing them for more sophisticated interactions in the future.
Primary School students begin by assessing factors that influence the well-being of their communities, taking action through initiatives designed to create a healthy and supportive environment. In High School, this sense of community involvement deepens as students become active participants in shaping their surroundings. They learn the value of diversity, collaboration, and the importance of taking on new challenges to positively influence both their immediate environment and the wider world.
Counselling
At ISS, our Counselling Services are dedicated to fostering our school community’s personal growth, resilience, and overall well-being.
We provide a confidential and compassionate space where students are empowered to navigate challenges and thrive. Through both proactive and responsive approaches, we nurture social-emotional development and collaborate closely with families to address individual and community needs.
Our services are tailored to suit the developmental needs of our students, and they include:
- Confidential individual or group counselling sessions
- Preventative workshops for students
- Informative sessions and seminars for parents
- Effective communication and collaboration with parents and teachers
- Consultation with families and staff to ensure holistic support
- Mentoring a Student Support Leaders Group to support the mental health needs of all our students
By working in collaboration with all stakeholders, we aim to create a supportive environment that enables every student to reach their full potential.
Learning Support
In keeping with our mission, vision and values, ISS aims to help each student to reach his or her potential by maintaining an inclusive, nurturing, enriching and empowering learning culture. Once we determine student eligibility for our Learning Support program and confirm that we have sufficient staff and resources to support the student, a student plan is created including learning strengths, challenges, accommodations, goals, teaching strategies, and level of adjustment. Our ISS Learning Support Team, familiar with learning profiles and strategies for differentiated instruction, supports students in our inclusive environment.
Determination of Learning Support
Students with current educational-psychological reports are assigned a case manager. If a student presenting learning needs has not been formally assessed, we follow our Learning Support Referral Process. Eligible students are placed on one of five Levels of Adjustment, reflecting the amount and type of support needed: Levels of Adjustment.
To participate in inclusive classrooms:
- Level 1 students require in-class differentiated support in a specific area of learning above that which is provided to all students.
- Level 2 students require accommodations across one or more areas of learning.
- Level 3 students require accommodations or modifications across one or more than one area of learning.
- Level 4 students require significant support, accommodations, and modifications across multiple areas of learning.
- Level 5 students require significant support, accommodations, modifications, and adjustments to curriculum across multiple areas of learning, and a part-time or full-time shadow teacher to participate in the inclusion classroom.

Safeguarding
ISS International School fully recognises its responsibilities regarding child protection, and the welfare of all students is of paramount importance to our community. We aim to create a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for all members of the community. We believe that all students have a right to be protected from neglect and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
