From a young age I lived in Indonesia and Brunei and experienced Singapore’s urban jungle in my teens. I finished high school and university in Perth, and at first found it difficult to reconcile my new Australian identity. My connection to Asia and my exposure to expat life made a Bachelor of Education in English and Bahasa Indonesia from Curtin University a natural choice. After 8 successful and fulfilling years teaching Bahasa at Perth College, an Anglican girl’s school, it was time for a change of scenery again to feed my travel bug! I spent the next 18 months travelling Asia and Europe, and living and teaching in the UK.
My next and current adventure took me back to South East Asia and ISS International School. It has been wonderful reminiscing about old school days with current students. Being able to give back to and be part of an international school community again has been extremely rewarding!

After graduating from university, I began my career as a Japanese teacher at the high school where I had previously studied in Japan. For a span of 15 years, I had the opportunity to teach both modern and classic literature to junior and high school students.
During my own high school years, I was deeply captivated by the world of Japanese literature, which ultimately influenced my decision to become a Japanese teacher. My expertise lies in classical Japanese grammar, and I am eager to utilise this knowledge as IB MYP/DP Japanese courses encompass the study of both modern and classic literature. In addition to teaching MYP at ISS, I have also served as a DP self-taught tutor at various international schools in Singapore and Malaysia.
In my classroom, I strive to create an environment where students come with clear objectives, challenge their thoughts, and experience a sense of accomplishment. I am excited about the prospect of learning and growing together with you at ISS.

Bsc in Computer Science (National University of Singapore)
I began teaching about two decades ago, after an earlier career as a Mobile Planning & Implementation Engineer. Though my training was in Computer Science, I found myself drawn to working with young people. I’ve come to see education as a privilege, where we get to walk alongside students, supporting them not just academically but in their growth as individuals. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to serve in various roles in Singapore, China and Malaysia, and I’ve learned something from them.
Outside of work, I enjoy simple pleasures such as the occasional off-road biking trail, or just a quiet walk in the park with my family. In an earlier season of life, I dabbled in writing rap songs, mostly social commentaries on life in humbler neighbourhoods or reflections on a particular era. I was pleasantly surprised when a few of them found their way onto national radio.
My professional learning has also led me to doctoral research in education, exploring how teaching and learning continue to evolve in today’s rapidly changing world. Regardless of where that journey leads, I hope to remain a lifelong learner alongside my students. What I find most rewarding in the IB curriculum is watching students’ eyes light up as they work through their Mathematics explorations. The process can be challenging, but seeing them arrive at that moment of discovery makes it all worthwhile.

Post-Graduate Diploma in Education – English as a Second Language
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) English for Professional Communication (Minor: Spanish Studies)
Having completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and being a registered teacher in Hong Kong, I have gained valuable experience teaching English as a second language in two different local secondary schools. These three years of teaching experience honed my skills in effectively engaging students and creating an inclusive learning environment. My journey then took me to Germany, where I immersed myself in the language and culture while working as an English teacher in a bilingual kindergarten and primary school aftercare program. This opportunity allowed me to broaden my perspective on early education and parenting, leading me to publish a book on German early education practices.
Having learned multiple foreign languages myself, I understand firsthand the struggles and triumphs that accompany language acquisition. This personal experience fuels my empathy and allows me to relate to the challenges faced by English language learners. Joining the ISS family, I aim to empower students to become confident, lifelong learners and global citizens.

I have taught Chinese across a wide range of programmes, including IB, IGCSE, O-Level and A-Level, supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds in developing strong language proficiency and academic confidence.
My teaching focuses on helping students build deep understanding in listening, speaking, reading and writing, while also developing critical thinking, structured expression, and effective communication skills. Grounded in applied linguistics and learning science, I believe that successful language learning goes beyond examination performance and should equip students with transferable skills for lifelong learning.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have held curriculum leadership roles, including Programme Head of Chinese Language, where I was involved in curriculum planning, teacher mentoring and academic quality assurance. I have also led the development of Chinese language textbooks supported by the Ministry of Education of China and endorsed by the HSK Examination Centre for global use.
I am committed to creating inclusive, supportive and engaging learning environments that encourage curiosity, confidence and a genuine appreciation of the Chinese language and culture.

Master of Arts in English Literature (Cum Laude)
Bachelor of Arts Honours in Philosophy
After twenty years as a university lecturer in Taiwan, I relocated to Singapore in 2019. Following a major turning point in my personal life, I spent much of 2025 travelling, beginning with a journey to Antarctica. During that period, I came to realise how deeply I missed the sense of purpose and human connection that teaching had always given me.
I began researching private schools in Singapore, and ISS stood out because of its close-knit atmosphere, strong sense of community, peaceful setting, and emphasis on knowing and supporting students as individuals. Its approach felt closely aligned with my own educational philosophy. I am pleased to be a part of ISS this academic year.
I believe literature both enriches our understanding of ourselves and fosters deep empathy for others. I hope you will find my classroom to be a place of intellectual rigour and warmth, where you feel respected as an emerging thinker and are encouraged to develop an independent, confident voice.

My passion for teaching started from a young age when I was often asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. After a brief working experience in the financial industry , I realised that only teaching could bring me the satisfaction and motivation I was looking for. Over the years, I have taught toddlers right up to high school students from various cultural backgrounds. When they thank me for providing them with the knowledge and support they look for, that motivates me to do better. With my experience, I hope to work towards the total development of the students and instil an appreciation for English. Outside the classroom, I love travelling and spending time with my family.

Born in the vibrant city of Chicago, music flowed through my veins thanks to my Korean parents. While excelling in the scientific realm at the University of Michigan, my heart yearned for the art of music. Specialising in piano under Dr. Blythe Owen and Zeyda Suzuki, yet my soul found its true resonance with the cello’s haunting melodies. Salzburg, Austria, beckoned me, where I immersed myself in the renowned Mozarteum, collaborating with exceptional soloists and chamber musicians, leaving a trail of mesmerised audiences across Europe.
Beyond the confines of traditional notation, I embarked on an audacious journey into jazz and Baroque improvisation, relentlessly pushing the boundaries of my artistry. As a mentor, I’ve had the privilege to inspire students from diverse backgrounds, from the United States to Europe and Southeast Asia. The International Baccalaureate (IB) music program, with its celebration of diverse cultures and genres, deeply resonates with my soul.
Now, as a music teacher at ISS, I am thrilled to cultivate a thriving musical culture and ignite the creative flame in every student, helping them discover and nurture their unique artistic voice. Together, we shall paint the world with the colours of symphonies and unlock the limitless potential of musical expression.

Bachelors Of Arts (English and American Literature)
Master Of Art (English Education)
I was born in Japan and had an English education there; however, I had opportunities to live in Switzerland and Canada before I started my life in Singapore. When I first came to this lovely and lively country in 2016 with my husband and daughters, I joined The Japanese School Singapore and taught English Language to elementary school students for three years, as HOD of English. My philosophy of teaching, with my long-time experience of teaching ESL to students from elementary school to university has been the same, and it is that “Students show the biggest improvement in their language acquisition when they are interested or having fun.” I love to see students’ improvement, especially when I see the students who struggled in the beginning could flourish their English skills after they made steady efforts. Language is language – it is useful only when you use it. I am looking forward to teaching ISS students and to seeing their efforts fruit.

Summary
Master of Social Science (Professional Counselling)
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Born and raised in Singapore, I have spent over 14 years supporting young people and adults across school, community mental health, social service and reintegration settings.
I believe counselling is not about “fixing” a person, but about helping them feel understood, find language for what they are experiencing, and discover the next step that feels possible. In my work with students, I aim to offer a steady, respectful and safe space where they can slow down, make sense of themselves, and feel less alone with what they are carrying.
I work with young people by first building trust, listening carefully, and meeting them where they are. From there, I support them in recognising their emotions, understanding patterns in their thoughts and relationships, and developing practical ways to cope with stress, conflict and change.
I believe that growth often begins when students feel seen as whole people, not just through the lens of their difficulties or achievements.
Outside of counselling, I enjoy travelling, horse riding and tabletop games. These remind me of the importance of patience, perspective, humour and staying open to new experiences.
