Mother Tongue Support

While the school’s language of instruction is English, ISS recognises the importance of mother tongue. Where possible, throughout the year, the mother tongue languages are celebrated.

In Primary School, classroom teachers encourage students to use mother tongue to access the curriculum and promote the languages visually within the classroom environment. Parents are invited to become involved in mother tongue promotion activities. In High School, students with academic proficiency in Chinese, Japanese and Korean are able to access the MYP and DP Language and literature course in those languages.  These classes can provide pathways to a bilingual diploma in Grade 12.
